Cataracts
What are Cataracts?
Your lens is located behind your iris, near the front of your eye (the coloured part of your eye). It’s usually see-through, which makes it easier to view things clearly. Your lens focuses light rays onto the retina (the back of your eyeball) to create a picture, which is subsequently transmitted to your brain.
Proteins in the lens of your eye alter over time if you have a cataract. Your lens becomes clouded as a result, and your vision becomes fuzzy. Cataracts normally take a long time to form. This causes your vision to deteriorate gradually. As you become older, you’re more prone to get cataracts. A cataract can affect either one or both of your eyes.
A cataract can only be treated by replacing your clouded lens with an artificial one. However, how much your cataracts disrupt your daily life may influence your decision to get cataract surgery. At first, cataracts may not affect your vision. However, if your cataracts prevent you from reading or driving safely at night, you may want to consider surgery.
